Strict action against those resorting to unscientific medical treatments, says Kerala Helath Minister

The Minister of Health, Veena George, has said that more agitated strict measures are taken that resort to non -scientific and stripping methods during emergency medical situations such as Ashildbirth.

I was at the Government Women and Children Hospital in Kottaparamba in Kozhikode on Saturday (April 12, 2025) to open an oxygen plant and a breastfeeding management unit.

“The infant mortality rate at the national level is 27 per 1,000 living births. The World Health Organization has established the objective of reducing it to six. However, in Kerala, it is already as low as 4.3 for 1000 living births,” said the minister.

Mrs. George said that any regressive step that the State’s achievements in the health sector would be severely treated and treated as criminal crimes. Referring to a recent incident in which a mother died in Malappuram, the minister said that the woman was denied medical treatment despite suffering bleeding for hours. This would be a consultable guilty homicide, he added.
