The officer, writer and politician retired from IAS, P. Sivakami received the Verchol Dalit literary award and a cash prize from ₹ 1 Lakh of the Nelam Cultural Center, founded by the filmmaker Pa. Ranjith.

Speaking at the award event here, Mrs. Sivakami said the prize was important not because it was an honor but because it is a challenge. “It’s about being in the mainstream. We are serious thinkers who want to change society. We are not the ones on the periphery. Ten years ago, we could see a meeting like this. But today, I feel so Happy of lace so Happy to -Mante -so -ste Orte -Soty Soty Soty Soty.” He said.

Mrs. Sivakami said that Dalit literature had triggered several controversies. “I used to think that I am sitting in a room and writing a story with beautiful aesthetics. But, I’m really fighting with so many people whose faces I don’t know. I’ve made Manys.”

“Dalit literature has created a fear in them [caste Hindus]… about his domination, aesthetics, his passage. It is time for them to understand that we are not threatening them, but that we are claiming our rights, “he added.

The filmmaker Pa. Ranjith said that Mrs. Sivakami was a writer, had bone in power positions and had a moment in a movie. “She has been involved in so many fields, but has always affirmed her Dalit identity in public. It is not an easy choice … doing so only slander that criticism and appreciation. Her work infuses high hopes.

Mr. Ranjith stressed that scheduled caste government officials have failed the interests of the community. “There is a culture of fear among government officials … the son of work done by her is commendable. Many officials tell me privately that I am doing a great job, but I tell them to use their power and do something. Difficult to speak for the Dalit,” he said.
