The hope of a new auspicious beginning, the family union and the promise of the abundance of one year and Peter marked Vishu celebrations in Kerala on Monday (April 14, 2025).

For many, Vishu implies breaking with a gloomy for new and relatively more productive roads in life.

The Vishu Kani ritual is essential for the festival. It is essentially an aesthetic arrangement of seasonal fruits, local vegetables, rice, rice stems, coconuts and sugar cane stems with golden konna flowers (India Laburnum) and flanked by illuminated lamps.

Families usually see the arrangement of the first on Vishu day.

For many, the exhibition marks the guarantee of a cornucopia of blessings and abundance in the New Year, the arrival of the spring planting season and the promise of a rich harvest. Exchanging gifts, summary and outbreak of fire cookies characterize Vishu festivities.

The families adorned in Kerala’s traditional attire visited temples throughout the state. According to reports, Sabarimala, Guruvayoor and Sree Padmanabha Swamy experienced a taller footprint than the previous year.

At least 30,000 people reserved online to attend Vishu Pooja in Sabarimala. The priests of the temple distributed the strands in the form of coins of the main deity, Ayyappa, to the devotees who gathered to witness the Vishu Kani ritual.

Vishu protest

Vishu was also a day of protest for Asha’s workers.

On the 62nd day of his protest for sitting before the Government Secretariat for the minimum wages, the members of the State Kerala workers association observed Vishu to highlight their demands.

A Fishu Kani was established in front of his place of agitation, and S. Amit, 10, son of an amazing Asha, joined the protesters dresses such as the mythical Krishnan, the consultant of the Hindu deity, the festival’s pet.

The Department of Health, based on the Vishu tradition of giving friends and family currencies, launched an online contribution scheme to benefit children suffering from rare ailments.
