The Interior Minister of the Union, Amit Shah, on Monday (April 14, 2025) said that the Ministry is working on an agreement to allow certain samples received by the Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL) owned by the Government also analyzed by private laboratories.
Mr. Shah said that 30,000 trained professionals are necessary to visit each crime scene where the punishment is more than seven according to the new criminal laws. He pointed out that every year, around 36,000 students will graduate from the National University of Forensic Sciences (NFSU), many of whom will also work on private forensic laboratories.
The minister said that due to the farsightedness of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government established NFSU in 2020, while three new criminal laws entered into force in 2024. He said that seven NFSU campuses have been selected in the next six months. In addition to the thesis, the establishment of 10 more campuses is also proposed.
When paying tribute to Br Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, Mr. Shah said Babasaheb worked to end the constitution of India. “Our Constitution is not just a book. It has a system for the protection of the body, property and honor of each citizen and forensic science is now playing a very useful role in strengthening the criminal justice system associated with this three,” Shah said.
Going to the Summit of Forensic Sciences of All India 2025 organized by NFSU, it emphasized the need to categorize criminals in usual criminals, those who lead to crime due to circumstances and those who committed crimes out of necessity. The stressed by the importance of providing psychological advice to such individuals within prisons, with the aim of encouraging them to become responsible citizens.
