The activists belonging to Samana Manaskara Vedike and other Dalit organizations installed a Notboard Roading ‘Dr. Br Ambedkar Double Road ‘, on a section or a 100 -foot road in Mandya to mark the celebrations of the birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar on Monday.

According to Lakshman Cheeranahalli from Vedike, the road in Mandya’s commercial area referred to Colloquirax as’ 100 feet. Road ‘, even thought that the Municipal Council of the City (CMC) or Mandya had approved a resolution 50 years ago in 1975 to change the name of the road as “Dr. Ambedkar Road”.

Due to the lack of political will, the authorities could not implement the resolution. Dalit’s efforts and other progressive organizations to name the official path after Dr. Ambedkar did not yield any positive results, he said.

But, the activists decided to install the note of the road of ‘Dr. Ambedkar Double Road ‘on the 100 -foot section between the Cauvery school to the Gowrishankar community hall on the occasion of Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

Mr. Lakshman said several organizations such as Samana Manaskara Vedike and the Dalit groups had tried to get the attention of the authorities by hitting vinyl stickers along the way, naming it as Dr. Ambedkar Road ahead of Dr. Ambedkar Jayanthi. But the police had removed the stickers, he said.

However, we remained unchanged and install the notes on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, he said.

Mr. Lakshman said the authorities last year tried to change the name of the road after Kempegowda, but the Dalit and other groups opposed the move and caught CMC’s attention to the 1975 resolution.
