To contain erroneous and inflammatory content, the authorities have also blocked 1,093 social media accounts in the last two days, while strict legal action is expected to continue in case of repeat offenders, according to News18.
Two brothers, Kalu Nawab and Dildar Nawab, have emerged as the key defendants in the case of double murder and are now in police custody. They were arrested Monday night from two different places, said a senior police officer.
Kalu was arrested from a town near the Indo-Bangla border in Suti, while Dildar was collected from Murarai in Birbhum, which is close to the Jarkhand border. Police sources said that both were supposedly involved in the instigation of the disturbances and are being interrogated to track the widest network. They have already produced the leg before local courses.
Special research teams formed
To intensify the investigation into the incidents of murders, looting, caused and disturbance fires, special research teams (SIT) have been constituted that comprise officials of the Department of Criminal Investigation (CID), Special Task Force (IB). These teams of several agencies are working together to identify more guilty, verify the authenticity of the viral content and track the source of provocative rumors and publications on social networks that intensified tensions in the region.
A high police officer told News18: “We have extracted all relevant and related CCTV images to identify perpetrators. We can ensure that no one will be saved. We will use their other technologies to identify the illegal attacks and migrants of Bangladesh.”
Violence, which exploded in the Murshidabad-Malda de Bengala region, has left a trace of destruction and fear among residents. Hundreds of Hindus from villages fled to Malda and now reside in shelters or temporary camps in the area. The Local Police, supported by the central forces, has intensified patrols in sensitive areas while maintaining a close surveillance on digital platforms.
Meanwhile, blocking around a thousand social media accounts is to be another proactive measure for the prevention of greater incitement. High officials say that most blocked profiles were used to disseminate false news, manipulated videos, erroneous information and community propaganda.
