The members of the Erode Urban District Congress Committee on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) sent 50 letters to the president of India Druguadi Murmu, demanding that the law of the WAQF amendment revokes.
Directed by the president of the T. Thiruselvam committee, the Congress picture declared that the law, which was approved in Parliament, recently received a presidential assent. They affirmed that the Law undermines the autonomy of the WAQF properties and facilitates the seizure of land used by members of the Muslim community.
In accordance, the amendment gives full authority to the district collector to determine whether a property is a WAQF property or not, a previous responsibility managed by the WAQF court. They also said that allowing non -Muslim members in the WAQF meetings is unacceptable, since the Constitution guarantees the community the freedom of self -government. The letters urged the president to revoke the law to ensure that community members can live without fear.
