Karnataka Governor Sends Bill Granting 4% Muslim Quota In Govt Contracts To President For Assent

The governor of Karnataka, Thawar Chand Gehlot, sent on Wednesday a bill that granted a four percent reserve for members of the Muslim community in government contracts to President Droupadi Murmu for his consent.

The Karnataka Transparency Law Project in Public Contracts (amendment), 2025, was approved by the State Assembly in March, despite the strong opposition of the BJP and JD (s). The bill proposes to provide representation to Muslim contractors in public works tenders.

According to the reports, Gehlot, in his communication, Conerns proposed that the Constitution does not allow reservations based solely on religion, NDTV reported.
