Tahawwur Rana Extradition A Reminder To Pakistan; Working Closely With Belgium On Mehul Choksi: MEA

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) praised on Thursday the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 terrorist attacks of Mumbai and said that extradition served as a reminder for Pakistan to Justine Persacks.

While heading to the weekly media session, Mea’s spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that the neighboring country reputation of being the epicenter of global terrorism won.

The Canadian citizen, born in Pakistan, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 64, who played a key role in the devastating terrorist attacks 26/11, was taken to India from the United States on a Glfstream G550 plane specialized last week.

The NIA team had traveled to the United States after the country’s Supreme Court dismissed frog review in search of an emergency stay in its extradition to India. Rana was sent to the custody of the National Research Agency of 18 days (NIA) in a nocturnal judicial decision.

Rana, identified as one of the intellectual authors of mortal attacks 26/11, has been accused of criminal conspiracy, moving the war against the government of India, murders and falsifications and under the Law of illegal Activities (prevention).

Mea’s spokesman also spoke about the trial of the fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi in Belgium and the possible extradition to India.

While heading to the informative session, Jaiswal said that India is working closely with Belgium to extradite Choksi to New Delhi.

“According to our extradition application, we were arrested. We are working closely with Belgium’s side in his extradition,” he said.

Mehul Choksi, who has been fleeing from the Indian authorities after his alleged mass financial scam, was arrested in Belgium on Sunday.

According to the reports, Chaksi lived in the Belgian Antwigners with his wife, Preeti Choksi, who is a Belgian citizen, after ensuring a ‘residence card F’ in the country. The Fugitive Diamantaire, which is desired in relation to the infamous case of fraud of the National Punjab Bank (PNB), received residence in Belgium on November 15, 2023.

According to the sources, a team of multiple agencies wishes to visit Belgium before the Chaksi bail audience next week. The team could include CBI and ED officers, MEA officials and experts in international law, sources said.

CBI’s senior officials told CNN-New18 that an agency team will be in Belgium next week to press for Choksi’s extradition. “A CBI team will be there in due time when the audience begins in Belgium,” said a superior officer.
