Coonoor residents demand capture and relocation of sloth bear

Coonoor residents have urged the forest department to capture and relocate a lazy bear who, according to them, has broken in homes in search of food.

According to Hathererly Road residents, the lazy bear has broken in houses, stealing food and attacking local residents. A resident of the area, talking with The HinduHe said that the animal had also entered a couple’s house and attacked them, causing injuries.

The resident declared that the bear was also entering stores near the area and stealing provisions. Although a cage is placed in the area on Monday, so far it has managed to evade the capture they said.

When it was contacted, the senior officials of the Nilgiris forest division declared that their operations continue to capture the animal and are also retaining reassuring and relocating it away from the area.
