Satchish Kumar considers the sighting of the extraordinary stained redhank. It was a ‘lifer’ for him. In terms of bird observation, a lifeguard marks the first time someone sees a kind of birds in the field.
The stained red and common red assault have more similarities than the differences, but the latter is sufficiently pronounced so that a bird observer does not confuse each other.
When Sathish saw the stained red lonely, there were also some common red flanks in the waters.
The red spot that saw on May 3 had slipped into his reproduction plumage.
In its reproduction plumage, from the crown to the belly, including the neck and throat, the stained redhank develops a dark and deep gray. His legs also replace red with dark gray.
One of the diagnostic characteristics that distinguishes it from the common redhank (also a winter visitor in these parts): the color and shape of the peak.
In common red red, the beak is shorter, and black and red are distributed evenly among the upper and lower jaws. The base of the beak is red and the tip, black. In the stained reds, the beak is longer, thinner and the most acute tip, and the lower jaw has a touch of red at the base. The rest of the lower jaw and the entire upper jaw are black.
Another feature of stained redhank is the slight curve for the beak.
