In a tweet on X (previously Twitter), Ilhan Omar, the US representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district, pleaded with the federal government to fully support Canada’s investigation into Nijjar’s death.
“It is quite worrying that Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar may have been murdered by the Indian government. The Canadian probe must have the full backing of the US. We also want to know if there are any operations like this in the United States, she added.
Following Omar’s remark, MP Priyanka Chaturvedi requested India’s foreign ministry to launch an investigation into how a US elected official is interfering with Jammu & Kashmir’s peace through a Pakistan-funded PoK tour.

In 2022, Ilhan Omar reportedly traveled to Pakistan and Kashmir that is occupied by Pakistan. Her travel was paid for by the Pakistani government, according to an annual House financial disclosure report. According to the statement, the visit from April 18 to 24 was paid for by the Pakistani government and included lodging and meals.
She most recently abstained from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech during the joint session of the US Congress in June. She had claimed that Prime Minister Modi’s administration had oppressed religious minorities.

In retaliation for Ottawa’s expulsion of an Indian official, India rejected the accusations as “absurd” and “motivated” and removed a senior Canadian ambassador. India has also requested that Canada take stronger action against terrorists and anti-Indian groups operating from its territory and has banned Canadian visa services.
