On social media Sunday night, President Trump mocked pop sensation Taylor Swift, taking pleasure in the jeers that Philadelphia Eagles fans gave the singer and girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce during Super Bowl LIX.
“The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Before the Chiefs’ crushing 22–40 loss to the Eagles, Swift and Trump were both in the stands at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, supporting the team.
Swift had a small double-take before grinning when the 35-year-old singer of “Cruel Summer” made an appearance on the Jumbotron before the game began and was immediately jeered by ardent Birds supporters.
When the president was momentarily displayed on the large screen during Jon Batiste’s rendition of the National Anthem, he was met with thunderous yells and acclaim.
Trump, 78, did not stay long, though, as he had previously predicted that the Chiefs would win. By halftime, when the Eagles were ahead 24 to zero, Trump cut his losses and left early, but not before posting on Truth Social.
The Republican commander in chief shared a post from the conservative provocateur account Libs of TikTok that contrasted video footage of the president and his daughter Ivanka Trump cheering as the game began with Swift’s jeers from fans.
“Trump gets massive cheers at the Super Bowl while Taylor Swift gets booed. – The world is healing!” Libs of TikTok wrote above the two clips.
Trump became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl on Sunday night, and Swift attended the game last year to cheer on Kelce, the Chiefs tight end, as the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
There were rumors that Kelce was going to pop the question to Swift at this year’s Super Bowl, but that didn’t work out. If it did, it was quickly shelved when the Chiefs were thrashed by the Eagles.
Trump supports Swift’s boyfriend’s team even though he is not a Swift fan.
After the Chiefs quarterback’s wife and family members came out as outspoken MAGA fans, he publicly expressed his respect for Patrick Mahomes. Before kickoff, he was spotted at the Superdome taking pictures with Mahomes’ family.
The Eagles’ unwillingness to go to the White House ceremony in their honor after winning the 2018 Super Bowl during the president’s first term is another instance of Trump’s past disagreements with the franchise.
Since the chart-topping singer’s September endorsement of former Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump and Swift have also been at differences. However, their dispute is mainly one-sided because Swift usually ignores Trump’s agitation.
He bemoaned on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” after she endorsed his Democratic opponent.
