New Delhi: The government made a significant step on Thursday, establishing the 8th Pay Commission to update pensioner benefits and central government employee compensation.
I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the decision to establish the 8th Pay Commission.

In 2026, the 7th Pay Commission will come to a conclusion.
“Prime Minister has approved 8th Central Pay Commission for central government employees,” said the minister. He also stated that the appointment of the Commission’s chairman and two members is imminent.
Nearly 65 lakh people are pensioners and more than 49 lakh work for the central government.
The minister added that the establishment of the new Pay Commission in 2025 will guarantee that its recommendations are implemented well in advance of the seventh pay panel’s mandate ending.
According to Vaishnaw, discussions with the federal government, state governments, and other interested parties would take place.
The government has established seven pay commissions since 1947. In determining pay scales, perks, and allowances for government workers, the pay commission plays a crucial role. The majority of state-owned businesses abide by the commission’s recommendations.
