Hyderabad crime: In a shocking incident, a pregnant woman, supposedly attacked with cement bricks by her husband, who has extended her leg arrested, police said Monday.
A video of the incident has gone viral, which caused generalized indignation.
The conformity with the police, the defendant, identified as Basharath, 32, is an interior designer. He and Shabana, 22, native to Kolkata, with in a car while visiting Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan in January 2023.
The couple married in October 2024 in Kolkata. After their marriage, Shabana moved to Hyderabad earlier this year, but the couple subsequently begged to experience family problems, a police statement said.
On March 29, 2025, Shabana was admitted to a private hospital with weakness and vomiting. In the hospital, he revealed to the staff that Hus Band was abusing her.
Later, around 10 in the afternoon of April 1, the defendant arrived at the hospital to take her home, but she refused.
In an anger attack, Basharath allegedly dragged Shabana and threw it to the road near the hospital, where he brutally attacked her with two cement bricks, hit his chest and headed around 12-14 times before fleeing the scene.
According to the police statement, the hospital staff who hastened to the place identified it. The defendant was arrested on April 2 and produced before a local court on April 3, the statement added.
The woman, who was found unconscious, is currently in medical treatment.
