Malabar Devaswom Board finds going tough in the absence of chairman

In the absence of a president since January, the juggling Board Devaskom (MDB) has been fighting to carry out several activities. The former president, Mr. Murali, emptied his position on January 16. The Board has no heroes any meeting since then and, therefore, cannot make crucial decisions.

“The festival in the Kottiyoor temple in Kannur begins at the end of May. It is an important event, and several arrangements must be made. The MBD, citing the need for a new president to take charge soon.

In addition, repair works worth around ₹ 10 Lakh must be carried out in several temples before the monzón weet. Another important pending decision of the Board involves recently designated employees. “Unlike other devaswom joints, the appointments in the MBD are not carried out through a recruitment board. The appointment of new employees must be approved by the Board to be permanent,” said Sreenivasan.

The Board must meet for various purposes, including the completion of the list of offers in different temples and coordinating with several departments. It has a reviewed salary structure for temples based on its annual income. The Government provides a management fund, through the Board, to financially weak temples to pay employee salaries. However, these benefits cannot be used unless the plate is congene.

There are about 1,600 temples and more than 6,000 employees under the MBD in the districts of Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Kannur, Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur. “If a new president is not immediately appointed, the Board will fall into a state of anarchy,” said Sreenivasan.
