The Western Bengal Government presented its report on Murshidabad’s violence in the Superior Court of Calcutta on Thursday. The report details the violence and large -scale destruction that occurred on April 8, 11 and 12 in parts of the Murshidabad district. The report, which is accessed by News18, emphasized that the situation of the law and order had deteriorated to such an extent that the deployment of the central armed police forces (CAPF) was necessary.

The highlights of the State Report

The April 8 incident

According to the report, on April 8, 2025, a large -scale agitation begged around 2 in the afternoon on the PWD field under the Raghunathganj police station. A crowd of approximately 8,000–10000 met, of which almost 4000–5,000 people processed towards Umarpur and blocked the national road around 3 pm.

Despite the repeated attempts of the officer in charge of Raghunathganj PS and the Jangipur SDPO to disperse the crowd and clear the traffic, which included ambulances, school buses and public transport: the mafia refused to comply. Around 4:25 pm, the crowd became violent, verbally abusing the officers and throwing an attack with bricks, stones, lathis, iron bars and other mortal weapons. Several police personnel were attacked, and the attackers snatched a Glock gun (butt No. JPD2, loaded with 10 rounds) belonging to SDPO Jangipur.

The report says that the mafia also destroyed public property and set fire to a government vehicle. To disperse the mafia, the police triggered two rounds of tears smoke (TSM) and a TSM LR. The situation was possible under control after almost four hours. However, as the mafia retired to the city of Raghunathganj, they regrouped more to fultal and continued the vandaling infrastructure, including the advanced traffic stalls and the wardrobe, which also caught fire.

The incident of April 11

The report establishes that the intelligence of the district’s intelligence branch indicated the possibility of a protest on April 11 after Jumma’s prayers in multiple places: Umarpur (Raghunathganj PS), Sajur More (Suti Ps) and Old Dakherg). Consequently, a great police deployment was organized.

In Sajur More, a violent crowd blocked the national road near New Dakbungalow, causing a massive interruption. When the police tried to administer the situation, the mafia became violent, wounding at least 10 officers and vandalizing public properties. Despite using tears smoke, the situation worsened and the police were forced to retire. The violence then extended to the city of Dhuliyan, where several stores, temples and houses were looted and burned.

Simultaneously, around 2:30 pm, a crowd or 4,000–5,000 gathered at Old Roof Bungalow more in Samsheranj PS and began to protest. Later they moved to block the main road of Dhuliyan and the National Highway. Despite the police efforts, including the use of Housdhailers to urge calm, the mafia became increasingly violent. Ten officers were injured when stones were thrown and the nearby establishments were destroyed and fires.

Reinforcements led by the SP and SP or additional Malda artinó and used non -lethal force. After 4 to 5 hours of intense efforts, the road cleared and the order was restored.

The incident of April 12

According to the report on April 12, a new violence emerged near Kanchantala Masjid in the Samsheranj PS area, where an agitated mafia tried to attack Hindu residences in Ghoshpara. The police forces led by higher officers, including the Dy SP (traffic) and Addl SP (Rural Malda), were attacked with stones. Latinharges and non -lethal ammunition were used to disperse the crowd.

Violence was also reported from the hospital and room No. 5 in the city of Dhuliyan. The SP of the Jangipur and Addl Police district. Sp or Kursong rushed to the scene and used the strength to control the situation. Fifteen Fast Action Force (RAF) and a police officer were parked to collect.

Why were the central forces

The report clearly establishes that due to the simultaneous outbreak of violence in multiple locations and the situation that deteriorates rapidly, the SP Jangipur PD contacted the DGP & IGP of Western Bengala around noon on April 11, requesting the deployment of Capf. Consequently, two border security force companies (BSF) were deployed before 1 PM to restore order. For the night, the law and order had been controlled.

Police acknowledged that the situation had left their control. As a result, 60 FIR have been presented in relation to violence.

The police also mentioned in the report that they had to resort to shooting in self -defense.

Steps Tasks so far

  • Senior officials, including the DGP and PGI, have been active by monitoring the situation and visit the affected areas.
  • The route marches are being carried out in sensitive areas.
  • Speakers are being made to stop rumors and restore peace.
  • Until now, 38 families who had fled the duration of their homes, violence has been rehabilitated and are provided with security and assistance.
  • A CAPF camp has been established in the vicinity of continuous surveillance.
  • Provisional relief of RS. 10,000 have been disbursed to 160 people affected by violence in the Samshanganj PS area.

The report mentions that many more steps have been tasks to ensure that normality returns to the affected regions.
