17 companies of CAPF deployed in Murshidabad, situation under control says West Bengal DGP

Seventeen Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were deployed in the Murshidabad District of Western Bengal on Sunday (April 13, 2025) after violent protests on the WAQF Law (amendment) that charged three lives on Saturday. Some 150 people were arrested and one that suffered injuries in the bullet was admitted in a state health center, police said.

General Director of Police, Western Bengal, Rajeev Kumar held meetings with senior police officers in Murshidabad. He said the situation was “very low control.” Jangipur Superintendent or Police Ananda Roy asked people not to believe in rumors and approach the police in case they need clarifications. The SP said that 155 people have been arrested so far in relation to violence.

Meanwhile, 23 high -ranking officers of the State Police and other agencies have been deployed in the district affected by violence. Karni Singh Shekhawat, Police General Inspector, Border Security Force, was among those present in the district. Nine BSF companies have been transferred to the areas devastated by the fight.

Eighteen police years also hooked on the violence that exploded in the district on April 12.

Meanwhile, Isha Khan Chowdhury, deputy of the Malda Dakshin Lok Sabha Constitancy Congress under which the areas affected by the violence of the Murshidabad district fall, said he and the leader of the Adhir Congress Ranjan Chowdhury.

Almost all the leadership of the BJP State Unit went out in Kolkata to protest against violence. The state president of BJP, Sukanta Majumdar, claimed that violence was a “conspiracy of radical outfits such as the population against India [PFI] And the Islamic movement of the students of India [SIMI]”

A section of BJP leaders also said that hundreds of Hindus of Dhulian in Murshidabad have been forced to take refuge through the river in Baishnabnagar in the neighboring district of Malda. “I urge the central paramilitary forces deployed in the district, the State Police and the District Administration to guarantee the safe return of these displaced Hindus and protect their lives,” said the leader of the Opposition Suvendu in a position on social networks.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Trinamool Congress accused the BJP of using false photographs to inflame communal tensions in Murshidabad. Trinamool leader, Kunal Ghosh, great specific examples and pointed out that BJP leaders have used photographs of violence in other parts of the country on social networks.

“The BJP is spreading misinformation and attributing some photos to Murshidabad disturbances, while reality is far from that. For example, they are using photos of anti-kaa protests in Lucknow, since those or Murshidabad.

“Bengal’s government is clear that no one will be allowed to take the law in their hands and violence will be with strict punishment, regardless of the community or religious identity of the perpetrators,” said Sagarika, a member of Rajya Trinamool.
