A 21 -year -old man was arrested in relation to the rape and murder of a girl in the Manipur Churacandpur district, police said on Sunday (April 13, 2025).
The girl’s body was found in a forest in the subdivision of Thanlon on Friday, they said.
“The girl had gone to the forest to collect firewood. As she didn’t return, her father went to the forest that looked for her. He found her body with torn clothes and injuries,” said an officer.
The defendant was arrested from Khoken’s village in the district. He is a native or district of Pherzwl, police said.
Demanding a strict punishment for the defendants, the Association of Mothers of Zomi said that “the repeated recurrence of the violation only testifies the lack of respect and the inability to protect the dignity of the woman.”
This is the third case of rape of a minor in the Churacandpur district in less than a month.
Earlier this month, a 10 -year -old girl was assaulted by a minor child. Last month, a nine -year -old girl was found dead in the vicinity of a help camp.
