Three travel agents were arrested for trying to send a Punjab resident to Canada using a false passport, police said Wednesday.
On April 10, a man, with the name of Kamaljeet Singh, who had an Indian passport, tried to board a flight to Toronto from the IGI airport. The doors immigration controls, officials suspected when passport photography did not coincide with the individual. When questioning him, the pin revealed his real identity as Manpreet Singh, 40, a Punjab resident or Mohali, police said.
Manpreet confessed that he had paid ₹ 20 Lakh in advance to an agent, Rupender Singh, 29, for facilitating his trip to Canada using a forged passport. He revealed that the total agreement was solved by ₹ 32 Lakh, the police said, and added that he was presented to Rpender through a friend and then with his associates, Harish Chaudhary, 24, of Gujarat and Vishal Dhiman, 27 of Uttar Prurpur. There, they delivered the false passport to Manpreet and then escorted him to the airport, he said. After this, Rubender, Harish and Vishal were arrested from Himachal Pradesh.
Police have registered a FIR against the three defendants and is further investigating their financial transactions and exploring their participation in similar immigration fraud, said a senior police officer.
