The WAQF Law (amendment) will not be implemented in Western Bengal, said on Saturday (April 12, 2025) in the Western Bengal state, amid violent protests in the state.
Mrs. Banerjee said the law was made by the center and that the answers should be sought from it.
“My sincere attraction for people of all religions, please remain calm, remain restricted. Do not participate in any irlicious behavior in the name of religion. Each human life is precious; it does not incite disturbances for the sake of policies.

Several vehicles, including police trucks, were set on fire, stones were thrown into the security forces and roads were blocked when violence shook the duration of Murgsidabad, South 24 and Hooghly districts on Friday.
“Remember, we did not make the law on which many are agitated. The law was made by the central government. Therefore, the answer you want must be sought from the central government,” said the CM.

“We have made clear our position on this matter: we do not support this law. This law will not be implemented in our state. So what is the riot?” He asked.
Mrs. Banerje said that legal measures will be taken against those who incite disturbances.
“We will not tolerate any violent activity. Some political parties are trying to disagree with religion to obtain political profits. Do not give in to their persuasion,” he said.
“I think religion means humanity, good will, civilization and harmony. I appeal to everyone to the peace and harmony of Mintain,” he added.
