Some can rule out religion because they are divisive. However, the Hindu Baps temple of Sadhu Brahmaviharidas or Abu Dhabi says that it has experienced the Hindu tradition as unifier.
On the morning of January 22, 2024, Sadhu Brahmaviharidas or the Hindu Baps Temple of Abu Dhabi observed Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the Rama Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. While sanging Siya-Rama and Swaminarayan, he noticed the diverse but united gathering around him. Hindus of several sects: Shaivas, Shaktas, Vaishnavas, Swaminarayans, as well as Jainists, Sijs, Christians and Muslims, all experienced a shared identity as Bharatiya. This unit amid diversity is characteristic or Bharat, a land known for its multisude to religions, deices, languages, food and people.
While the Hindus were prepared worldwide to celebrate Ramanavami and Swaminarayan Jayanti in Chaitra Shukla Navami, Brahmaviharidas reflects on the plurality of Deitions in India through the life of Shri Rama and Shraminarayan. The Hindu Sanatan tradition has prospered in its diversity of lineages or Sampradays for almost two millennia. Each Sampraday loves different manifestations of the divine and adheres to different theological principles. In spite of the thesis differences, Hinduism has flourished as a single identity, reiterating its universal lessons for varositing communities in different regions and epochs.
Shri Rama is celebrated for his discipline, dignity (Maryādā) and respect for people, regardless of their social class and gender. Brahmaviharidas first met Shri Rama’s stories through the Amar Chitra Katha series before his initiation when he was young. Later he shared thesis stories in sermons in India, Europe and the Middle East.
Not far from Ayodhya, on the other side of the Saryu River, is Chhapaiya in the district of Gonda de Uttar Pradesh, held as the birthplace of Shri Swaminarayan. Millions visit this little town annually to honor Shri Swaminarayan’s teachings. At the age of eleven, Swaminarayan left home, traveled through the Indian subcontinent from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari, and was established in Gujarat anyway. His sabhā in Gujarat became a center for open discussions between devotees, theologians and political emissaries, as well as the interpretation of music and literature of several cultural transmissions. These discussions were compiled in a text or 273 teachings called vachanamrut. Swaminarayan’s teachings amplified the previous lessons of Shri Rama and Shri Krishna, whom he venerated. The concept of manifestation (Avaraṇ) in Hinduism is significant not to divide believers but to unite them by convention of the same forms in different forms for several communities in time.
Shri Swaminarayan’s social reform work embodies the values of Hinduism and promotes spiritual excellence. Their efforts to train the status of women in the home and society have acclaimed their legs by academics and historians such as Kanaiyal M. MUNSHI. Its subtle reforms of impressive class and superstitious ritual practices were praised by their contemporaries and Hindu leaders. Swaminarayan’s teachings articulated a form of Hinduism that resonated with a changing colonial India and then a global Hindu identity. His community extended the Vedic teachings of Hindu Sanatan beyond India, as seen in places like Baps Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Jersey, USA. UU., The Bops Hindu mandir in Abu Dhabi and the Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandiraast.
Sitting under the central dome of Baps Hindu mandir in Abu Dhabi, Brahmaviharidas reflects on the work and teachings of Shri Swaminarayan, which celebrate unity and community within Hinduism. These cars and cultural complexes welcome everyone, regardless of whether they identify as Swaminarayan or Hindu. The teachings here emphasize love, peace and harmony, the values that are crucial for all countries, communities, cultures and religions. The universal ideal of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, the entire world is a family, feels deeply, especially Ram Navmi’s day.
Sadhu Brahmaviharidas, initiated in the Swaminarayan Sampraday for his holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj in 1981, currently exposes the design, creation and management of the Hindu Baps Mandir in Abu Dhabi, Eau.
