Andhra Pradesh Child Rights Commission expresses concern after finding minor mothers at Old GGH

The members of the State Commission for the Protection of the Child of Andhra Pradesh (APSCPCR) were surprised when they found many minors among the new mothers in the former General Hospital of the Government (GGH) an inspection.

“When we survey the age of the new mothers, they admitted that they were minors. Some of them said they had two children before turning 18 years old,” said APSCPCR president Kesali Appa Rao.

The members of Mr. Appa Rao and APSCPCR T. Adi Lakshmi, G. Seetha Ram and J. Rajendra Prasad visited the old GGH a few days ago and asked about the facilities, the safety of babies and their health conditions.

“We found some mothers taking care of their babies in the mother and the newborn care unit (MNCU). Questions about their age, revealed that they aged below 18 years,” said Mr. Appa Rao Rao The Hindu On Friday.

In some cases, the weight of babies, less as mothers were not at age to withstand a child or anemic. The doctors noticed that some minor mothers delivered babies in the old GGH, says the pediatricians of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (UCIN) who accompanied the APSCPCR team giving the inspection.

“We interact with some young mothers and their attends in the waiting room and the MNCU said they married at the age of 15,” said Adi Lakshmi.

The APSCPCR member, Rajendra Prasad, said that the girls who gave birth say everything the prevalence of children’s Mariaos in the state.
