In a strong movement to guarantee better roads in Mumbai, the Municipal Corporation of Brihanmumbai (BMC) has strict tasks of shares against contractors and concrete suppliers (RMC) ready to mix (RMC) involved in poor quality work. The BMC commissioner and administrator, Bhushan Gagrani, has made it clear that it will be zero tolerance for carelessness in road construction.
The Civic Agency is currently working on a great project to convert all the main roads of the city into concrete roads, with the aim of pothoking them before May 31, 2025. To guarantee high quality work, the BMC has established corpses lines for each period for each deploin for each FEF.
Recently, a road contractor who works in Dinkarrao Desai Road in the Aarey neighborhood area was convicted of delay and low quality work. Just after being warned, the contractor did not solve the problems on time. As a result, the BMC has seen the RS 5 Lakh contractor and forbidden to participate in any BMC tender for the next two years.
Similarly, two other road contractors have been fed with RS 20 Lakh each for lower quality work. In addition, two RMC plants have lost their record after their concrete mix failed the quality controls known as “fall tests.” These plants have also forbidden to provide concrete to any BMC project over the next six months.
The depression test is a simple method used to verify the quality of concrete, especially the amount of water it contains. If there is too much water, the concrete weakens and does not last long, as special on the roads. That is why the BMC now makes it mandatory to perform drops of both in the plant and on the site of the Royal Highway.
Surprise of doors, the additional municipal commissioner (projects) Abhijit Banggar found differences in falling readings in the plant and the road site, which led to these actions. He said that the quality will not be compromised and that the strict steps will be tasks against any person convicted.
The BMC has also ordered engineers to present the road work and that senior officials make surprise visits to ensure that everything is done correctly. This strong impulse of the BMC aims to make Mumbai roads better, safer and more durable.
