The national capital witnessed a 14.8% increase in calls related to the fire between January 1 and April 28 compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) services accessed by Hindu, the Fire Department received 6,626 calls in 2025 against 5,772 in the first four months of 2024. In 2023, the calls were located in 4,904, marking 17.7% in 2024 and a cumulative increase of 35.1% for three years.
However, the number of deaths in fire incidents has decreased by 2025 (see graph).
A senior DFS official told him The Hindu That, although the increase in calls suggests an increase in fire risks, death reduction may indicate a better emergency response and public awareness.
With the beginning of summer, Delhi has witnessed several fire incidents. Last Sunday, a mass fire crossed a poor neighborhood in the northwest of Rohini in Delhi, destroying in 800 chanets in five acres and leaving two dead children and five other injured.
Two days before, Delhi’s Prime Minister Rekha Gupta visited the DFS headquarters in Barakhamba Road to evaluate the preparation of the emergency department and announced the assignment of ₹ 125 million rupees to obtain new equipment.
