The report of the socio -economic and educational survey (cast census), accepted by the Karnataka government on Friday, has proposed an increase in reserve to other backward classes (OBC) from 32 % to 51 % existing. This would result in a total reserve in the state that reaches up to 85%, including 10% to Waker’s economic sections (EWS) and 24% to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
The survey places the population of behind around 70% of the state population.
New categories
It also proposes the creation of a new category with the purpose of reserve and movement of castes between categories. The re-classification of the matrix for the reserve has been drawn by adopting the concept of creamy layer, which will be applicable only to category 1, which had the legs exempt before. The number of categories it proposes has increased from the current five to six, with an addition in category 1, such as A and B.
A separate or 1-A category has created the legs for nomadic castes. Several more backward castes that were in category 2-A have also moved to 1-A that has been provided with a 6%reserve. The population of castes in category 1-A is approximately 34.96 Lakhs or around 8.40% of the state population.
Orphaned children who do not know that their castes have also been reserved in 1-A. In total, category 1 currently has a 4% reservation.
The most backward
“The nomadic castes cannot compete with any other caste and, therefore, we feel that a separate category is required under 1-A. The categorization and the percentage reserve assigned to each one is based on education, employment and other factors.
Among the other changes, Kurubas is learned that have moved from category 2-A to 1-B, with other castes in general of 12 % reserve for a total population of 73.92 LAKH or 17.74 % of the population of the state. The reserve for Muslims in category 2-B has doubled from 4% to 8%, as shown in the documents obeyed from government sources.
According to the proposal reserve matrix, category 2-A, will have a 10% reservation for a population or 77.75 LAKH or approximately 18.70% of the total population. It currently has a 15 %reserve. The 3-A category, which includes the vocal axis and others, will have a 7% reserve for a population or 72.99 Lakhs or around 17.53% or the population of Karnataka. Currently, the category receives 4%reservation.
Panchamsali demand
Panchamasalis whose demand for a decade must be included in category 2-A has no legs with. Continuously in category 3-B along with other lingayat castes and other communities. The 3-B with a population of 81.37 LAKHS or 19.55% of the state population receives 8%, compared to 5% currently.
The report presented by the former president of the Karnataka State Commission for backward classes K. Jayaprakash Hegde in 2024, based on the duration made by the survey was the possession of H. Kantharaj in 2015. The survey includes 5.98 crore the population of 6.98.
