In the midst of generalized complaints of antisocial activities at night, the Alappuzha Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus station in Kerala and the surrounding areas has been under CCTV surveillance.

The authorities said that seven cameras had bone installed at a cost of ₹ 2.5 Lakh as part of the efforts to improve security in the area. While two cameras have bone installed in the KSRTC bus support, a Haas leg camera installed near the Fire Station, Residential Area, Matha Boat Jetty, KSRTC Workshop and Jos Alukkas Junction. A control room has also been established at the Alappuzha South Police Station to monitor CCTV images. The cameras were installed by the Administration of the Alappuzha district in collaboration with Care for Allepey, which sponsored the initiative. Previously, the municipality of Alappuzha installed a high rise light at the bus station.

The movement follows the broad complaints that the bus station had become a shelter for antisocial elements. They had been several incidents of inappropriate behavior and immoral activities, partly during late hours. There were also cases of physical attacks against people who tried to intervene or question such activities.

In response, a high -level meeting chaired by the Alex Varghe district collector a couple of months ago decided to start strict action against immoral activities at the bus stop. The meeting also decided to install CCTV cameras and high ascent lights. He directed the Police and the Department of Special Taxes that improve surveillance in the bus terminal and their surrounding areas to stop antisocial activities.

Regular controls

In addition to intensifying the patrol, a joint squad that includes the police, the municipal authorities of Alappuzha, the special taxes, the representatives or the operators of Shikhara boats and the resident associations have also been formed to carry out regular inspections at the station and its surroundings.

The district collector opened the CCTV system on Wednesday. Assistant of the Transportation Officer A. Ajith, civil judge and secretary of the Legal Services Authority of the PRMOD Murali District, Chief of Police of the MP MOHANA CHANDAN District, the municipal president of Alappuzha KK Jayamma, Care of Allepy Ajay and others.
