The Secretary of the Interior of the Union, Govind Mohan, on Saturday (April 12, 2025) said that the center was closely monitoring the situation in the Murshidabad district of the West Bengal, and assured the State any possible assistance, including the deployment of additional security personnel, if necessary, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MHA).
Three people were killed on Saturday (April 12, 2025), since the violent protests on the Waqf (amendment) law, 2025, approved by Parliament on April 4, continued to explode in certain parts of the State.
The MHA said that after “community violence” was reported in Murshidabad, the Interior Secretary had a videoconference with the main secretary of Western Bengal Boodj Pant and the Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar on Saturday on Saturday.
“The DGP, Western Bengal, reported that the situation was tense but under control and was being closely monitored. DGP was also that he is the help of BSF (border security force) published locally, and that they have been more than 150 people.
Mr. Mohan said that, apart from the personnel of almost 300 BSF locally notable in Murshidabad, five additional companies (around 500 people) have been deployed at the request of the state government.
Mr. Mohan advised the state administration to also monitor other sensitive districts, and establish adequate steps to guarantee normality at the earliest.
