A candidate who tried to present himself for the CET-2025 exam at the last minute was identified as an imitator through a facial recognition application based on the QR code on Thursday. The incident took place in the Silver Valley Public Pu College of examination in Malleswaram, and the authorities have ordered an incident investigation.

A woman named Tuba Fathima Jameel arrived in the morning to write the mathematics document. Upon arriving, he went directly to the bathroom and remained there for almost an hour. Just when the exam was about to start, she left and tried to enter the hall showing an admission card with a QR code.

However, when her photo was captured and verified through the application of facial recognition, she revealed that she was not the genuine candidate. Before the authorities could contribute this to the director’s attention, the woman fled the scene, according to a statement issued by H. Prasanna, executive director of the Karnataka Exam authority (Kea).

It was later discovered that he had placed his photo on the admission card that belonged to the real candidate, Tabu Naz. He had also entered incorrect exam dates. The university director was instructed to present a detailed report together with video images of the incident. The legal action will continue, added Mr. Prasanna.

The new facial recognition system introduced by KEA to detect imitators has proven effective. The second day of its implementation, all verifications were carried out successfully using the application, without reported technical problems.

Mr. Prasanna, together with the Islavuddin Gadyal administrative officer, visited the Government’s College Pu exam center in Malleswaram. They verified the candidates who use the application of facial recognition based on the QR code developed by Kea, expressing satisfaction about their performance. The officers scanned the QR codes, captured candidate photos and verified their identity in the act. This is the first time that Kea implements this system.

Of a total of 3,30,808 candidates, 3.04.186 (91.95%) wrote the mathematics exam and 2,39,848 (90.90%) of 2.63,867 candidates wrote the life science examination, Hero on Thursday. Mr. Prasanna said that, taking into account the two days, 92.93% of the candidates appeared for the CET-2025 of two days.
