These pharmacists work in the retail sector (such as chemical stores), clinical hospitals and pharmacists throughout the country.

The measure has been supported by the largest lobby of pharmacists outside line with more than 12 Lakh members, the organization of chemicals and drug addicts (AIOCD).

“AIOCD supports the IPA’s application to include pharmaceuticals under professional compensation insurance. Chemists play a vital role in public health and, like doctors and nurses, they face professional risks daily. It arises in doctors who buy compensation insurance

Professional compensation insurance is designed to protect doctors and other financial professionals from legal costs and compensation claims made by patients or clients in case of a dispute.

The data shows in the midst of the increased risk of litigation, doctors are buying professional compensation insurance. In the last five years, the demand for this insurance has shot almost 150 times.

According to a 2016 survey conducted by the National Law University, Bengaluru, has a 400 percent increase in claims linked to medical negligence presented in the consumption courts. Althegh, only 10 to 15 percent or cases were legitimate, with doctors condemned, the remaining 85 percent of medical workers were allowed to defend them.

Why do pharmacists need claims protection?

The letter explains why pharmacists seek legal protection. They believe that their role in patient care, from medication management to advice, exposes them to risks such as medication errors and drug reactions for the advertiser. Therefore, to protect them from financial responsibility and promote responsibility, it is necessary to include pharmacists under professional compensation insurance, such as doctors and other health professionals.

“Pharmacists are directly involved in drug management, patient advice, clinical decision making and the guarantee of rational drug use. Although it is essential for patient safety, these responsibilities also expose pharmacists to risks such as medication errors, incorrect dispensation and adverse reactions to medications, among others”, Dr Subhash C Mandal, National Secretary, National Secretary of April 10.

“In many cases, pharmacists are the first point of contact of patients with respect to consultations related to medicines. As a result, there is a need for a comprehensive professional compensation insurance scheme for pharmacists, similar to supplier health professionals.”

This insurance, IPA, believes, “will encourage pharmacists to practice more confidently, knowing that they have the necessary protection against the risks associated with their profession.”

The Letter Said, “… We would like to request that pharmacists be included under the ambit of professional indemnity insurance Coverage. IPA has completed the letter by offering help, discussion and more details on the matter. “We are pleased to provide more details or discuss this application and its potential benefits for professional and public health,” the IPA wrote.
