In a shocking incident, a man in Chennai of Tamil Nadu died as he fished in a lake when a fish, put him in his mouth to stay safe, got caught in his throat and drowned it.

The tragic incident took place on Tuesday in Madurantakam, when the victim, identified as a 29 -year -old worker, Manikandan, had gone to fish alone, the Times of India Reported.

An expert in capturing fish by hand, Manikandan usually fished with friends, but on Tuesday, he had left alone and, therefore, he had no one to hold the fish. According to the report, citing the police, he caught some fish with bare hands, but since he had no place to keep the capture, he put one in his mouth while trying to catch more with his free hand. The fish in his mouth, however, moved in his throat and was caught in his trachea.

According to the police, while Manikandan tried to get him out, the fish was trapped in his airways, leaving him fighting. He came out of the water and tried to remove the fish. Then he was running home, but he collapsed along the way, police said.

After the locals noticed it, they tried to pull the fish, locally identified as ‘Panangottai’, out of Manikandan’s throat. However, they discovered that the sharp fins of the fish had contained in their trachea. The locals later took him to the Government Government Medicine Hospital of Chengalpet, where doctors declared him “brought dead,” the report added.
