Coastal population in Ernakulam hit by tidal flooding to get relief

Families affected by frequent and increasingly serious tide flooding in local bodies along the coastal belt of the Ernakulam district have reasons to cheer up, since they now allow to seek relief due to the damage to the property cable by the phenomenon.

They are asked that the legs request relief using the pro form prescribed in the relevant offices of the village. Once the requests, the authorities of the people and the local body will be verified, and the relief will be decided based on this verification. At least 29 local bodies in the district have been affected by the floods of Marea, and the amount of applications could reach thousands.

“The district has witnessed the flood floods unprecedented this year. The decision to give relief to the affected peoples was taken in a meeting with convents by Minister P. CAMAEVE with the Disaster Management Authority of the State of Kerala [KSDMA]. We have already begun to receive requests, ”said NSK Umesh district collector, who is also the president of the Disaster Management Authority.

The measure occurs shortly after a meeting condemns by the Panchayat district in January, where representatives of 20 Coastal Pancayats affected resolved to demand that the floods of tide would be included in the list of state and national disasters. Ezhikkara and Edavanakkad Panchayats had already approved similar resolutions and sent them to the state government a year ago.

Initially, the measure was to give relief to the local organizations affected only in Vypeen, after the intervention of the local MLA KN UNNIKRISHNAN. Later, other representatives, including the deputy of Ernakulam, Hibi Eden, raised a similar demand of the entire affected coastal section and wrote to the presidents of the local body, urging them to take the necessary measures to ensure that everything is eligible.

“All, except two of the 14 rooms, have a bone affected by the floods of tide, and we expect at least 100 applications, although we have received only 22 so far. Disaster,” said KD Vincent, former president of Ezhikkara Panchayat, who was instrumental in the organization of the Special Grama Sabha.

However, KSDMA sources argued that notifying Marea floods as a disaster would hardly address the problem and urged local organisms to assign their own funds for long and medium term mitigation plans. “We need to recognize that people will have to retire from some areas, while coastal floods can be mitigated in others. What is needed is a scientific study to find a lasting solution identifying households affected by sausages in each room.”

CG MadhusoDhanan, executive director of Equinoct, a supplier of community -based modeling solutions based in Kochi that has been at the forefront of the fight against the floods of the tides, expressed the hope that TID facilitation will be faster, such as compensation, mitigation and relief, including temporary relocation. “We have Bone demanding this during the last three years, citing the impact of the floods of the tides in around 12,000 hectares of country, including Pokali’s farms, in more than 20 local bodies, as well as the descent of the Earth in Ramsar’s critical sites,” he said.
