Collector VR Subbulaxmi has issued a suspension order against the Assistant Engineer (AE) or the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) after it was arrested by the Directorate of Surveillance and Anti -Corruption (DVAC) on bribery charges.
DRDA officials said that the arrested official, K. Nirmal Kumar, 34, who had been working in the Block Development Office, Gudiyatham, had demanded a bribe of a private contractor for cleaning pending slopes pending pending pending civic work carried out in the area.
The investigation revealed that the plaintiff S. Lingeshwaran, 45, or the village of Karuneeekasamudram, near Gudiyatham, had undertaken several civic works for a sum of ₹ 53 Lakh.
As most of the works were completed, he requested the reimbursement of the sanctioned amount. However, the AE demanded ₹ 30,000 for the same.
Not willing to pay the bribe, Mr. Lingeshwaran filed a complaint with the DVAC, after which he was arrested.
