Congress MP condemns Union Government for drastically reducing MGNREGS funds for Virudhunagar district

Of 2 million rupees, sends assigned in 2022-23, the funds have bone to give jobs only for 55 Lakh Mandays

Virudhunagar: MP of the Congress, B. Manickam Tagore, has condemned the government of the Union for drastically reduced the funds under the rural employment guarantee scheme of Mahatma Gandhi for the Virudhunagar district.

Going to journalists after presiding over the DISPA meeting in the presence of Virudhunagar Collector, vice president Jeyaselan, at school here on Thursday, the deputy of Virudhunagar said that the funds were assigned to give Mandays in rural areas.

“However, in the last three years, it has been drastically reduced to 1.48 million rupees in 2023-24; 98 Lakh Mandays in 2024-25 and now 55 Lakh Mandays for 2025-26,” Tagore said.

Accusing that the Modi government was conspiring against the district of Virudhunagar, which did not have much agricultural work in rural areas. “Men and women in rural areas are now deprived of insured employment,” he said.

The DOSPA meeting discussed in length on several Oncosing works financed by the center and state governments along with officials and representatives, he said.

The district administration has welcomed voluntary organizations to present to maintain the buildings of government secondary schools and higher secondary schools. Such organizations can approach the head of the respective school to know the need.

“This project will help the update of government school buildings,” he added.

The representatives of the voluntary organizations would be honored by the duration of the Virudhunagar district administration, the celebrations of the Independence Day, he added.

Mlas, Arrinivasan (Virudhunagar), Rrap Raghuraman (Satur) and G. Ashokan (Sivakasi), were among those who were present.
