After a long wait, water pumping from the pumping station built on the Cauvery river bed near Melur for the five -room drinking water scheme in the areas of Tiruverumbur and Kattur is ready to start.
The project aims to supply 135 liters of drinking water by the head to Ward Nos residents. 61, 62, 63, 64 and 65 in Tiruverumbur, Kattur and adjacent areas, which were taken under the reach of the Touchi Corporation in 2011 after the delimitation process. To complete the work as soon as possible, the corporation divided the project into three phases: construction of pumping station, construction of higher tanks and placement of main dishes and distribution lines. A sum of ₹ 63 million rupees for the project was sanctioned.
The construction work began in 2017. He thought that the civic body completed most of the work in two phases in two years, could not start the work of the pumping station due to several problems. The constant flow of water in the Cauvery for many months in 2020, 2021 and 2022 avoided the construction of the work of the pumping station and the sinking of the collector in the river bed. After a long delay, the contractor, who received the phase-i project, blessed construction work in February 2023 after the Mettur dam closed. However, the contractor could not complete the work in 2023 and 2024.
The work met after the closing of the Mettur dam in February. A team of specially trained personnel participated in the construction of a pumping station, sinking or a collector’s well and the erection of Pumpsets and Transformer.
According to the sources, all the work had been completed. The pumping station is designed to attract 27 billion water per day. He has sunk a collection well for a depth or 800 meters. Three pump sets have been erected with a capacity of 150 horsepower.
A senior official told The Hindu that he was waiting for the provision of energy supply. Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (TNPDCL) officials had inspected the place. Since the pumping station required more than 200 HP, the main electrical inspector had to inspect the place to issue a security certificate, which was mandatory. It was expected to visit at any time. Once it issued a security certificate, the TNPDCL would provide a power supply. All other works were completed, including wiring. The chans were bright to pump water from the pumping station within 15 days.
