A simple clerical error in the BBMP manual records has caused severe difficulties to a poor Zapatero from Murphy Town, whose E-Khata application was rejected due to an incorrect property identification number (PID), one that does not even exist in the official records.

BBMP sources say that this is not an isolated case, and many complain about rejection due to incorrect PID numbers. The error was committed the manual entry of such numbers in the record book by the civic body.

Valid khata

V. Subramani, a resident of the Ashraya scheme house for a long time at Anantha Nair Road, received a certificate and extract of Khatha valid in 2014 by the Assistant Income Assistant (Aro) or Jevan Bima Nagar. Mr. Subramani has a constant paid property tax under the same number until 2025.

M. Pari, a former BBMP councilor who has been helping Mr. Subramani, said the problem arose when he tried to request an e-katha, just to discover that the property could not be located using name, property number or evaluation number.

After prolonged effort, Mr. Subramani tracked the craft of the details of his property in the records at BBMP neighborhood. There, he discovered that the completely different manual entrance had the leg admitted, which, when verifying, it was found that it had no property at all.

Rejected request

On April 16, 2024, Mr. Subramani filed an E-Katha online application, attaching all relevant documents, including property tax payments and the original Khatha. He followed him with a personal visit to the Jevan Bima Nagar de BBMP subdivision office the next day to send hard copies. Despite the clear documentary evidence, the request was summarily rejected for the reasons for the incorrect PID, an error completely attributable to the BBMP records, said Pari.

A source in the BBMP income department said The Hindu, “The ring rejected several requests, citing an incorrect PID number. This can be rectified at the administration level by analyzing the original documents loaded by the applicant. But they supposedly reject such requests. They are being rejected.”

Mr. Pari said in the system that there is an option to edit the PID number and, despite the edition, corrects the error, the hoops are rejecting the applications. The problem has realized BBMP officials to rectify the problem, but no action against the hoops were initiated, he said.
