Fire engulfs three floors of residential tower in Surat, 18 rescued

A fire broke out in a residential tower in Surat on Friday (April 11, 2025) in the morning, after which 18 people trapped on their terrace were rescued, said an official.

The fire began around 8 in the morning on the seventh floor of the Happy Happy Excellence building of several floors located in the Vesu area of ​​the city and soon wrapped two more floors, said the mayor of Surat, Daxesh Mavani.

“The Surrat Fire Brigade helped residents lower the building. Eighteen people, who were trapped on the terrace, were also rescued. The fire is under control. No one was killed in the incident,” said Mavani.

The Minister of State for Gujarat for the Home, Sanghavi, who lives in front of the building, hastened the place and supervised the rescue operation.

A rescued resident said that many went to the terrace to save themselves from smoke and flames.

“Due to the thick smoke, it was impossible to climb the stairs. Therefore, we got used to the terrace. Later, the fire brigade staff turned off the fire for the first time and then lowered us by wrapping the faces,” said the resident.

Mr. Sanghavi said he was jogging in the garden when he saw the fire near his residence.

He said that the Fire Brigade first helped 40 residents climb the stairs before rescuing others from the terrace.

“Many of the building residents are known for me. Almost 50 personnel of the Fire Brigade and five fire -fighting vehicles arrived at the place. They safely evacuated 18 people trapped on the terrace. The personnel of the Fire Brigade did a commendable job,” Sanghavi.
