The Telangana Fire Department, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defense marked the beginning of the Fire Service Week with a commemoration parade in the State Fire Service and the Civil Defense Training Institute in Vattinagulapally, Gachibowli. Observed annually from April 14 to 20 throughout India, the week aims to increase public awareness about fire prevention.

This year’s theme is: ‘Unite to Ignite, a safe India to the fire’, which emphasizes the importance of community participation, education and preparation together with fire safety innovations.

The Fire Service Week also honors the 66 firefighters who lost their lives in the 1944 Abebeard explosion, the Royal Navy SS Fort Stikine ship at Mumbai Victoria dock on April 14.

Director General Y. Nagi Reddy directed the parade and paid tribute to fallen firefighters along with other senior officials. To promote public awareness, fire security posters, stickers and brochures were released.

Through the week, a series of events are scheduled in Telangana, including fire drills in hospitals, industries, shopping centers, residential colonies and LPG storage units. Fire security workshops, blood donation camps and community participation activities will also be held.

The department has urged citizens to adopt preventive measures and call 101 in case of emergencies. The week will conclude on April 20, with a closing ceremony and prizes for trial and drawing competitions will be distributed.
