This year, the ban will affect more than 2,000 motor boots in 14 coastal districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kankipuram, Cuddalore and Nagattinam. The ships will remain anchored in fishing ports and landing sites. Only the Ramanathapuram area will see more than 700 docked motor slats. To mitigate the impact on the livelihoods of fishermen, the government of Tamil Nadu is providing financial assistance from 8,000 rs to each registered fishing family. However, it is projected that the government incur a loss of several million rupees due to the stop in fishing activities. However, due to its extensive coast and abundant marine life, Tamil Nadu enforces this annual prohibition as an essential measure to promote sustainable fishing practices and protect oceanic ecosystems.
