The Villupuram Forest Division is working on a proposal for the establishment of an International Bird Center of the latest generation in the agaram reserve forest near Kazhuveli Bird Sanctuary, which falls under the Tindivanam forest mountain range.
Official sources said that a detailed report of the project (DPR) prepared by a consultant had been submitted to the Tamil Nadu government for approval and that the official announcement was expected.
“The proposed international bird center will include a center of consciousness and interpretation, and research facilities with services for tourists. The forest department has planned bird surveillance for bird observation, a canopy walway, distracts students. Karthikeani told The Hindu.
The department has planned to transport tourists in vehicles from the proposed center to Kazhuveli for exposure to the field.

Main wetland
Located near Marakkanam in East Coast Road, Lake Kazhuveli – SQ. Km of capture area – is one of the main wetlands on the coast of Coromandel.
The lake is connected to Bengal Bay by the Uppukalli stream and Yedayanthitu estuary, and is visited to nest migratory birds on the wheel route of Central Asia. The lake is the second largest brackish water wetland in Tamil Nadu.
List as one of the 141 prioritized wetlands of Tamil Nadu, Kazhuveli is also a wetland of international importance and a possible site of Ramsar, Chordination to the Ministry of Environment, the Portal ‘Wetlands of India’ of the Ministry of Environment and climate change.
It is home to about 200 bird species and is recognized as an important stop and a reproduction broth for about 40,000 migratory birds. The lake has a power field for long -term migrants of the subarctic cold regions of Central Asia and Siberia, including black tail gods, Curlew Eurasia, White stork, Ruff and Dunlin.
‘Vulnerable’ birds
The birds found in the sanctuary include pelicans with point peak, dirters, cormoranes, herons, garcetes, black ibis, tablespoons, flamingos, common pochardes, sandpipers, coots, shans and girls. Many of them were classified as “vulnerable” or “almost threatened” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
