The leader of the Trinamool Congress and former Western Bengal Minister, Abdur Rzazak Mollah, died at his home in Bhangar in the South 24 Pargan district on Friday (April 11, 2025). I was 80 years old.

Mollah, 10 times MLA who served as a minister in the cabinets of Jyoti Basu, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Mamata Banerjee, was an outstanding agricultural leader. A former leader of the CPI (m) who liked to be introduced as a farmer, Mollah had great differences with former Prime Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee about the acquisition of land in Singur and Nandigram (for a Tata car factory and a chemical center respectively). He had openly criticized the government of the left of the CPI (m) on the subject.

After the end of the 34 -year -old government in the left in 2011, Mollah had blamed Bhatacharjee and the then Minister of Industries, Niropam Sen, for electoral loss. “He cannot catch a water snake, it was for a cobra,” Mollah had said, criticizing the former prime minister, after the party to the Trinamool Congress in the assembly elections.

Mollah, who was expelled from the CPI (m) in 2014 for “antipartidism activities”, floated his own attire, the Banglar Nyaybichar party. Later he joined the Trinamool Congress.

Mollah was a minister in the government of the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee from 2016 to 2021, after which he remained away from politics due to the ailments related to the old age.

10 times legislator

He was chosen for the State Assembly in 1972 from Canning Purba and was a minister of the land and land reforms department in the government of the left front. The Trinamool Congress appointed him as a minister in charge of the Food Processing Department. A veteran leader of South 24 Parganas, Mollah was chosen for the assembly 10 times.

Prime Minister Mamata Banerje expressed condolences for the disappearance. “” I am sad and shocked by the death of my colleague, Abdur Rezzak Mollah. It was my colleague in the state cabinet. I respected it and honored him. His knowledge and experience in rural life, the agricultural economy and the agricultural reforms of Bengal were well known. Therefore, although once it is practical in a different style, it was easy and natural for him to join the mother-manush government [Trinamool ideology]”Mrs. Banerjee wrote in X.

The state government has also declared a half -day vacation in the death of Mollah. The leader of the CPI (m) Kanti Gangopadhyay visited his home after receiving the news of the disappearance.
