Four Tamil Nadu fishermen attacked mid-sea by unidentified persons

Four fishermen of Tamil Nadu suffered wounds after they were supposedly attacked in the sea by unidentified people, suspended to be fishermen of Sri Lanka, on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) at night.

The injured fishermen, when they arrived at the shore in Kodiyakarai on the day of the day (April 17) in the morning, received first aid in a primary health center in Kodiyakarai and were subsequently admitted as in patients in Vedaranam.

The assailants stole a GPS device, a Walkie-Talkie set, some cell phones, a loading light, fishing equipment and fish worth around ₹ 200,000 of the four fishermen.

Sources of the coastal security group have identified the injured fishermen as S. Ramakrishnan, 63, of Sirkazhi in the district of Mayiladuthurai, G. Fishil, 46, and P. Jagan, 36, of Pudupettai in the district of Mayiladuthurai, and D. Samuel de Chennai.

The sources said the four fishermen had sailed in a fiber boat from Kodiyakarai in the Nagapattinam district on April 14. They fish for about 13 nautical miles to the southeast or kodiyakarai when a group of unidentified three nightt.

Two of them spoke tamil and were armed with knives and trunks; They allegedly attacked Fishil, Ramakrishnan, Jagan and Samuvel, causing injuries, the sources said. They fled the scene after stealing the belongings of the fishermen.

Vedaranyam Marine Police is investigating the incident.
