The doctors of the care hospitals, Hitech City, eliminated a bullet housed in a patient’s brain in an intricate surgery that has given a 26 -year -old National Somali a new lease over life.

The patient, Gulem Mohamud Hersi, suffered a gunshot wound in Somalia and was transferred by plane to Hyderabad in a comatose state. Upon arrival, it was discovered that he had some neurological deficit, including weakness both in his arms and legs. A comprehensive medical evaluation revealed that the bullet was integrated into a highly sensitive area of the brain, which caused the neurosurgical equipment to prepare for an emergency intervention.

The complex procedure was directed by Dr. Laxminadh Sivaraju, Senior Neuro-Argeon consultant. “This was an extraordinarily strange case. The bullet was lodged in a very critical region of the brain. It required a meticulous planning and extreme precision to extract the projectile without providing addition to vital brain functions,” explained Dr. Sivarju.

Despite the high risk, the surgery was successful and Hersi has shown a significant postoperative improvement, the doctor added.

“When I arrived in India, I was unconscious and insecure from my future. But the team of care hospitals cools a new life,” said the patient.
