Nawshad Siddique, a MLA belonging to the Indian Secular Front (ISF), has been appointed in a signed registered by the Western Bengal Police in relation to the recent violence in Bhangar. The total number of people arrested in relation to this incident has now risen to 17.
Contenting violence, the Trinamool Congress, Mla Saokat Molla, from Bhangar had shared a video blaming ISF workers for inciting protesters and attacking the police.

However, Mr. Siddique said that “unarmed and peaceful” protesters were arrested. “We sing by law, but we will not let this slide,” said Siddique.
According to police sources, 12 of the defendants were arrested from the area of the Uttar Kashipore police station. Eight of the 12 were already in police custody on April 15, while another four were produced in the Court on Wednesday. A person was arrested from the Chandaneswar Police Station area. The other four were caught in the area of the Hatatala Police Station and were produced in the Court on Wednesday (April 16, 2025).
Until Tuesday, the number of judgments was nine. Police are carrying out search operations developed in all local areas to judge more accused.
The violence had exploded in South 24 Parganas Bhangar on April 14 when the protests of the Anti-Waqf Law (amendment) became violent. Police vehicles were supposedly burned by the ISF supporters at the protest site that led to more clashes.
The violence broke out in a protest meeting called by the ISF leader, Mr. Siddique. After the ISF supporters were avoided to arrive at the meeting, clashes began.
In the Sonepur Bazaar area of Bhangar, a mafia allegedly attacked police officers and put five police motorcycles and flame prison.
According to the reports, the clashes left at least 16 personnel of the injured police.
On April 15, the remains of the Police and the bicycles were removed from the streets of Bhangar while the area slowly traced normality.
The MLA Trinamool Congress and Bhangar Saokat Molla observer have shared a video blaming ISF workers for inciting violence and attacking the police and convicted of the act. “I request the Kolkata police commissioner to judge all those responsible as soon as possible and punish them,” Molla said on Tuesday.
Mr. Siddique added that his unarmed and peaceful protesters were arrested. “We sing by law, but we will not let this slide,” said Siddique.
IFREDING BACK TO NORMALLY
Meanwhile, Murshidabad has not reported a new violence that remained boiling for several days, since the protests of the Anti-Waqf law (amendment) shook the areas of Dhulian and Samsheranj. Some 400 people fled to the nearby district of Malda to find refuge in a camp.
Amid the predominant tensions, some 230 people have been arrested while the armed police forces of the center of the hand monitor constant.
As the simina tension, the prime minister, Mamata Banerjee, held a meeting with the magnets and Muezzins on Wednesday to discuss the WAQF law (amendment), reiterating that the law will not be implemented in the state.
Mrs. Banerjee said that magnets and Madzzins have the responsibility to ensure that “no one takes care of what the BJP says” and requested peace and community harmony in the state.
The meeting of April 26 of the Muslim Personal Law Board of All India (AIMPLB) on the grounds of the Kolkata Brigade parade, was canceled on April 15 in the midst of political and communal tensions, was reinstated on Wednesday.
