The Karnataka Backward Class Commission has recommended duplicating the reserve for Muslims from 4% to 8% in the state. It has also suggested to increase the reserve for other backward classes (OBC) from 32% to 51%. The recommendations have been made based on the socioeconomic survey, popular known as the “caste census”, carried out by the State in 2015.
CNN-NEWS18 has accessed the report of the Karnataka socioeconomic survey and the recommendations of the backward classes commission.
The survey nails the Muslim population in 18.08% in Karnataka. The general population of OBC, including Muslims, is linked to 69.60%.
