The Rural Police of Kozhikode has initiated measures to form surveillance committees at the neighborhood level to stop substance abuse and drug trafficking. The officers of the station house have been ordered to hold meetings at the level of Panchayat with local administrators and members chosen to discuss the action plans for implementation.
Police have proposed the formation of the neighborhood surveillance committees in response to the growing presence of drug pushers in the rural areas of Kozhikode and their invention in criminal activities.
As part of the efforts to seek public support, the Police organized a public convention in the rural area, which was inaugurated by the Deputy Police General Inspector (North Zone) Yathish Chandra. He had discussions of previous heroes with higher officers to finish the action plans that could be implemented with the participation of the community in vulnerable areas.
“Our goal is to build a solid network of residents that can help prevent substance abuse and observe the movement of suspended users,” said a senior police officer involved in the anti -drug campaign. He added that the people’s surveillance committees would play a key role in the construction of a reliable network of informants.
The chiefs of several grass panchayats, block and municipal panchas have expressed their support for the initiative to establish surveillance committees at the neighborhood level. The municipal councilors and the members of the Chamber are in contact with their respective officers of the house of the station to accelerate the formation of the committees and begin the awareness campaigns. They said that the committees would be structured to promote the participation of young people, teachers, members of the associations of residents, representatives of local clubs, political leaders, merchants and volunteers.
Some local bodies have also proposed to form groups of women to raise awareness among mothers about the importance of surveillance against substance abuse. Initially, support will be sought from organizations such as the Kudumbashree mission to establish the neighborhood level committees. Women police officers are also expected to plan social awareness initiatives for women.
“The police alone cannot lead a large -scale campaign against drug abuse and trafficking. If the neighborhood level committees become active and effective, we will be better positioned to address the problem,” said the attached squad of the antarcotic. He added that compliance efforts were onwards, with more than 400 suspects reserved in several cases related to drugs in recent months and a half.
