To bring agricultural innovations directly to farmers, Kannur Krishi Vicean Kendra (Chamber of Commerce) launched its ‘KVK on Wheels’ dissemination initiative in Panniyur on Friday (April 11). The mobile agricultural extension service, supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), aims to offer quality supplies and knowledge management of agricultural communities throughout the district.
Marked by the president of Block Panchayat, CM Krishnan, the project will facilitate the timely availability of seeds, planting materials, biofertilizers, micronutrients, pest control products and agricultural products with added value at the base level. It also promotes scientific production techniques developed by the Agricultural University of Kerala and ICAR institutions.
The mobile unit will work at a block schedule, allowing farmers to access products and guides printed on specialized crop management practices. “The initiative joins the gap between agricultural research and the field application,” said P. Jayaraj, KVK program coordinator, who described the project at the launch event.
In addition, demonstration gardens have been proposed in each block under the guidance of agricultural production companies. Model farms will help address commercial agriculture challenges and support the establishment of knowledge centers at the block level.
The “Chamber of Commerce on wheels” is expected to reinforce productivity and agricultural income in the district through a greater adoption of scientific and sustainable methods.
