The Karnataka Lokayukta has ordered the Department of Urban Development (UDD) to present a detailed report on alleged irregularities related to publications in the direction of the municipal administration, despite a vacancies rate of almost 50%.
According to the order, the Lokayukta has instructed an investigation into the accusations and demanded a comprehensive report. The directive follows a complaint filed by the social activist Jagadish MS, who claimed that despite the high vacancies, the department continues to pay salaries to employees who have not yet been assigned publications, results in a financial loss for the public treasure.
The complaint also states that the UDD has disbursed approaches to ₹ 4 million rupees in salaries to employees in a waiting list without assigning official tasks. In addition, it alleges that in some cases, Junior officials have been sent in positions for senior officials, according to reports, due to favoritism. This lack of experience, according to the complaint, is hindering the effective administration.
The Lokayukta directive follows a preliminary review of the documents presented, which suggested a potential misuse of the authority within the department.
