The Maharashtra Government has eliminated the allocation of 256 acres of Salt land in Mulund, Kanjurmarg and Bhandup for the Dharavi reurbing project (DRP) to the inhabitants of the marginal neighborhoods of rehabilitation. While environmental Conerns have raised, the CEO of DRP, SVR Srinivas, said the land is safe for development, since the Salt Commissioner of India had been dismantled for a decade ago.

“The sea has not touched the thesis since the Eastern Express highway was fine. They are no longer flooding or under the CRZ regulations,” Srinivas said, adding that all the necessary environmental authorizations will be obtained before construction. The earth is located west of the highway, far from ecological sensitive wetlands frequented by flamenco.

The movement is aligned with the Mumbai 2034 Development Plan, which assigns to Salt Pan lands for affordable homes. Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis has declared that without use such land, Mumbai remodeling is impossible. The central government has already assigned 55 Acres in Wadala for a special tax department and 15 acres complex in Kanjur for the car shelter of Metro line 6.

Critics and opposition leaders question why housing for the poor faces resistance when infrastructure projects in similar lands do not.

Mr. Srinivas clarified that the land remains with the state government, with NMDPL only paying premiums. “This is a mission of human transformation, not just housing,” he said, reiterating the objective of a mumba project without marginal neighborhoods. The work will be processed only after ensuring all environmental approvals, ensuring compliance with regulations.
