In the midst of generalized violent protests throughout the State on the WAQF (amendment) law, the West Bengal Prime Minister, Mamata Banerjee, urged people to maintain peace on Saturday and refrain from any “unfair behavior in the name of religion.”
It occurs after protests against the WAQF law became violent Friday, with agitators burning vehicles, colliding with security forces, interrupting road and rail trafficking, and at least 15 police officers injured.
“Each human life is precious, not incite disturbances for the sake of politics. Those who are inciting disturbances are damaging society,” Banerjee said in an X position.
Banerjee added that the law that caused public agitation was promulgated by the central government, not its administration and that any response in this regard must be directed to the center.
“In addition, remember, we will take legal measures against those who incite disturbances. We will not tolerate any violent activity,” said Banerjee, while vandalism reports linked to WAQF protests emerged Acrross in the state this week.
